CLEANING HINTS TRICKS AND TIPS


House Plants: To remove dust & dirt – place the pot in a plastic bag and tie the bag tightly around the base. Use a shower head to wash the leaves.

Tricks for Taps: The white mineral deposits that settle on taps lift easily with white vinegar. Soak a paper towel with vinegar then wrap around taps, leave for 10 minutes. Remove paper towel, rinse and buff. (For chrome taps only)

Fridge: To remove white mineral deposits from& ice and water dispenser drip trays, use neat vinegar, which can be poured in then use a toothbrush to clean. Wash thoroughly to complete.

Tea Stains in Cups or on Spoons: Fill cup with hot water, add a squirt of bleach add spoons and leave for half an hour then wash well.

Curtain Rails: Rub or spray the sliding track with furniture polish to make the gliding movement more fluid.

Pianos: Ivory notes should be cleaned with methylated spirits or lemon juice – avoid water altogether. Keep the key board open as darkness encourages the keys to turn yellow.

Smelly Carpet: Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda all over carpet, leave for half an hour then hoover up. This process will absorb all smells.

Shower Cubicles: To remove mildew from showers or windows, apply neat bleach then cover the whole area with cotton wool, this keeps the bleach where you want it. Leave overnight then remove cotton wool & rinse. Fabulous results every time.

Shower Heads: To remove lime scale, place shower head into a container containing equal amounts of malt vinegar and boiling water. Leave to soak overnight. Rinse well.

Chewing Gum: To remove chewing gum from upholstery or carpets, simply rub an ice cube on the gum until it hardens, then scrape away with a blunt knife. To avoid water drips from the ice cube, place in a plastic bag.

Lamp Shades: Use a paintbrush to brush dust off lamp shades and ornaments. If you have marks on a lampshade, use an eraser to remove them.

Sooty Glass Doors on Wood-burning Stoves: Use fine steel wool (0000) and fairy liquid diluted with water. Apply pressure to remove soot then rinse with clean water. Buff up with kitchen roll.

Buy T. Towels in Bulk: Use as polishing cloths. Boil wash, do not add fabric conditioner as this can make things smeary and they don’t absorb as much water.

Smelly Hoover: Doggy smell from hoover, bag not full? Get a cotton wool ball, drip essential oil on it and hoover ball up – sweet success.

Brushed Steel or Aluminium: Apply a little baby oil to a soft cloth and buff up to a lovely sheen, this will make it easier to clean next time. Also fantastic for lift doors.

TV & Computer Screens: Reduce static by putting some fabric conditioner on a cloth and wiping over the screen.

Kitty Litter: To keep cat litter fresh smelling, mix baby powder in with the litter.
